My Story
Lisa Donovan
Lisa Donovan grew up in Greensburg, PA, and graduated from Grove City College. She earned an MA in Professional Writing from Carnegie Mellon University and worked in communications for Mellon Bank and the Carnegie Museums. After leaving Pittsburgh, she was a communications consultant for a variety of corporate and educational clients. In New York, she switched to a career in mothering and volunteered by mentoring, tutoring, fundraising, and marketing for schools and non-profits. A favorite project involved designing and teaching an interpersonal communications course for children. She currently serves on the boards of WQED and Aria412 in Pittsburgh and is a Shorebird Steward on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. She is writing a third book about the birds in Pittsburgh’s National Aviary, but in the meantime, she enjoys offering programs about her books, birds, and collage art in libraries, environmental centers, bookstores, and other venues. Lisa is not a bird expert—just an enthusiast—and she welcomes the opportunity to share this enthusiasm.
